Memories of Bob-Lo Island

Ah, summertime!

BobLo Island, situated between Detroit and Canada on the Detroit River, holds cherished memories for many Canadians and Americans. Originally opened in 1898 as BobLo Island Amusement Park, it became a beloved summer destination. The island’s name evolved from the French “Bois Blanc” to the more pronounceable “BobLo.” Over the years, it featured rides like the Whip and the Thunder Bolt coaster, captivating generations of families. However, after 81 years, the boats ceased their runs in 1991 and the park closed in 1993.

The boat trip from either Detroit or Windsor was the start of a day of fun.

The video below left is a brief history of BobLo Island,  The one on the right shows a typical family trip from 1966 (no sound available).
